Key stakeholder engagement approach for the merger of two major hospital trusts
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, the district general hospital for the London Boroughs of Lambeth Southwark and Lewisham and one of the largest providers of specialised services in the UK, is proposing to merge with Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK.
Stand was appointed to provide specialist support to develop an approach and resource to brief key stakeholders including the relevant local authority scrutiny committees. We analysed the situation, explained statutory requirements, and proposed an approach leveraging trusted personal relationships where possible. We condensed hundreds of pages of complex technical information into an easily readable, standard briefing aimed at keeping separate the administrative issue of merging the trusts and any potential future service changes.
Andrea Carney, head of patient and public engagement at Guy’s and St Thomas’ said,
“Stand are a pleasure to work with – responsive, flexible and diligent, taking pride in their work. They used their extensive knowledge and expertise of supporting liaison with local authority scrutiny functions to advise and rapidly distil a large amount of complex information into a high quality, plain English briefing paper for key public stakeholders. They sought feedback as the piece of work progressed, and delivered the brief promptly, to a high standard.”
