Independent facilitation for public engagement events and reporting for a new hospital programme
NHS Lanarkshire had reached the final stages of a multi-year process to choose a site to build a hospital to replace the ageing University Hospital Monklands in Airdrie. Three possible locations for the new site had made it through a contentious process to the shortlist.
The health board appointed Stand to facilitate a series of planned public engagement activities aimed contributing to constructive, inclusive and open review of the possible locations, meeting the requirements of an independent review, and the local planning authority.
We worked with the NHS Lanarkshire team to deliver a series of community engagement events, a public hearing and an options scoring event held at public venues across the hospital’s catchment area.
We provided independent expert event facilitation, we acted as the MC at public community discussion events, provided advice on best-practice table facilitation and scribing, we supported the briefing of public discussion event staff provided by NHS Lanarkshire on best practice; we wrote up the public discussion event verbatim feedback; we reviewed and analysed the feedback and provided a report on the feedback of the public community discussion events.
A public hearing is an opportunity for key stakeholders to provide evidence around the options being considered. Stand provided advice to support the public hearing rehearsal and provided independent chairing of the public hearing.
We supported the options appraisal event and acted as an MC to provide independent facilitation of the options appraisal scoring event.
